Wed. morning thoughts

4 thoughts, spiritual and virtual:

* Politics being what they are, I'm thankful that salvation comes by other means. Less government, the better. More Christ, the blessing.

* Skip to next item, since these are not subjects of general interest: sleep (not well, unusually), diet (too much pizza), and dreams (I hardly ever remember).

* I had moved away from the Google Feed Reader, as all things Google. Just found Tiny Tiny RSS. Nice! And hosted for me here. Better! But then again, now I have ~Friendica ... So do I have a real use for #tt-rss? Anybody else have ideas or suggestions for using it? The public links seem to be disconnected in parlamentum.net.

* I thought it would be nice to somehow bring together my English translation of the #devotional, Quick Bible Truths, and Believing Prayer in one spot. I did it here as "Devotional Time." People (read: you) can sign up and get it by email, IM, RSS, iPhone. Hmm, what can #Friendica do on this score?

The updated description for our devotionals reads like this: "Devotionals are translated from the Portuguese and sometimes adapted slightly for speakers of English. They emphasize obedience to Christ as Lord, living like God's special people, and participation in his rescue project in the world. The devotionals come several times a week to urge us to live the Word of God daily."

The devotionals bring a cross-cultural perspective, urgently needed today, because we are meeting the world at our doorsteps, in our living rooms, in the workplace. Check out the Devotional Category here on my website.

Easing off Posterous

The recent purchase of Posterous by Twitter and the vague and ominous notice lead one to conclude that Posterous isn't going to be developed further and may even be discontinued.

That glum prospect means I'll not be posting any exclusive material to Posterous for now. If the new owners reveal a positive path for the site, we'll reconsider. Until then, this blog will be used mainly for links and crossposting from my Friendica account.

For the real content, therefore, sign up to my primary weblog, Walking with God, and follow my Friendica status. (Get the scoop here on Friendica.) There are going to get the lion's share of my attention on personal subjects.

To keep up with me generally, FriendFeed does a good job, in spite of now being owned by the reviled and revered FB.

A writer has to be an editor, too, says this op-ed piece in the WSJ. Note the emphasis on rereading, which I constantly tell FMag and TFR writers.

One of the means to assure such things is constant rereading. I reread from the top—or some similar landmark if the work is long—whenever I take a significant break from writing, and that doesn't just mean overnight but includes eating lunch, going to the bathroom, answering the phone and searching for elusive facts.Rereading not only ferrets out problems, but it also ensures continuity of voice, as well as that elusive quality dear to both writers and rappers: flow.
